- Enquiries triaged and routed before anyone opens the inbox
- Repetitive compliance paperwork prepared for a human to sign
The local picture
What Brisbane's job numbers say about where AI pays
Brisbane is not a single-industry town, and that changes where AI is worth putting. Brisbane City Council counts about 146,000 registered businesses in the city and a labour force of 852,000 across 190 suburbs, serving a resident population of 1.38 million. Roughly two thirds of Brisbane residents also work in Brisbane, which means most of the people doing the work are reachable in a morning.
The industry mix matters more than the totals. Counting jobs by where the work happens, the 2021 Census found health care and social assistance is comfortably Brisbane's largest employing industry at 121,574 jobs, just under 15 per cent of everything in the city, and the fastest growing in absolute terms with 27,641 more jobs than five years earlier. Professional, scientific and technical services sits second at 89,605 jobs, up 19,342 over the same five years. Then education and training at 70,042, public administration and safety at 63,351, construction at 51,307, and transport, postal and warehousing at 48,617.
Two smaller numbers tell you more about the shape of the city than the big ones do. Financial and insurance services employs 35,228 people here, and 9,340 mining jobs are located inside the Brisbane local government area. There are no pits in Brisbane. Those are head offices, technical teams and services firms, and they are some of the most document-heavy workplaces in the country.
Put together, that is a city whose working day is largely made of clinical notes, referrals, fee proposals, tender compliance, variations, progress claims, rosters, inspections and reporting. Almost all of it is written, almost all of it follows a pattern, and almost none of it is the part anyone was hired for. That is the part worth handing to a machine, with a person still checking it.
If you can name the process that quietly costs your Brisbane business a day a week, that is the conversation.

Four Brisbane businesses, four different first projects
None of these are clients. They are the four shapes of first project that come up most often in this city, written out so you can see whether yours looks like one of them.
- 01
A Fortitude Valley law firm
Eleven practitioners, a mix of commercial and property work, and a partner who signs off everything. Matter opening is retyped from the engagement email into the practice management system. Chronologies get rebuilt by hand for every brief. Time entries are reconstructed on Friday from memory, so the firm bills less than it worked. The first build drafts matter opening from the engagement correspondence, assembles a dated chronology from the documents already on the file, and turns the day's activity into draft time entries. Realistic outcome: the firm stops losing billable time it already earned, and junior lawyers spend their week on the law rather than on data entry.
A practitioner still decidesevery piece of advice, every court document and every entry that goes on an invoice.
Illustrative example, not a client story.

A construction subcontractor quoting across the south east
Four crews, work from the city out to Ipswich and the Gold Coast, and quoting that happens at night because the days are on site. Tender documents arrive as a pile of drawings and a scope with conditions buried in it. Extra work gets done and never written up. The first build turns a site visit, its photos and a voice note into a draft quote in the business's own format and pricing, flags the conditions in a tender that change the number, and writes up variations on site while the crew is still there. Realistic outcome: quotes go out in a day instead of a week, so the business is in front of more jobs, and the work that was previously absorbed gets invoiced because it exists in writing.
The office still decidesthe price, the inclusions, and whether to take the job at all.
Illustrative example, not a client story.

A property manager running a Brisbane rent roll
Around 600 properties over three portfolios, a shared inbox that never empties, and routine inspections that fall behind in the busy months. Arrears follow-up is inconsistent because it depends on who has time. Owners ring to ask where their report is. The first build triages the shared inbox into maintenance, arrears, leasing and owner enquiries with the right file already attached, turns inspection notes and photos into a routine report, and prepares arrears and lease renewal correspondence in the agency's own tone. Realistic outcome: inspections stop slipping, arrears are chased on the same schedule regardless of workload, and property managers hold more properties without the churn that usually comes with it.
A property manager still decidesevery notice, every entry to a tenanted property and every conversation with an owner.
Illustrative example, not a client story.

A general practice on the northside
Nine doctors, a practice manager, and a results and recalls process that lives in one person's head. Referral letters are dictated and retyped. Accreditation evidence is assembled in a panic every three years. The first build sorts incoming results and correspondence into the right doctor's queue with the relevant history summarised, drafts referral and specialist letters from the consultation record, and keeps accreditation evidence collected as it happens rather than reconstructed later. Realistic outcome: nothing clinical changes, and the practice stops carrying a single point of failure in its recall process.
A doctor still decidesevery clinical judgement, every result that needs acting on and every letter that leaves the practice.
Illustrative example, not a client story.

On the ground
The Brisbane suburbs and council areas this covers
Attua works out of Level 4, 126 Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley, about a kilometre from the CBD and on the inner-city busway. The practical effect is that the on-site part of a project is a short drive rather than a planned trip, which is why the first working session usually happens in your office instead of over a video call.
Inner city and inner north. Fortitude Valley, Brisbane CBD, Newstead, Bowen Hills, Milton and Toowong. Most of the professional services, agency and head office work sits here, and a session can run before the trading day starts.
Inner south. South Brisbane, West End and Woolloongabba, including the health, education and hospitality operators clustered around the hospital and university precincts.
Suburban centres. Chermside on the northside, Indooroopilly in the west, Carindale in the east, and the business parks around each of them. This is multi-site territory: medical and dental practices, pharmacies, real estate agencies and childcare groups, where one working process rolled out across every site is worth more than any single clever build.
The wider south east. Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay and Redlands. Construction, trades, logistics and manufacturing businesses in these council areas work right across the corridor, and the paperwork usually lands on one or two people in a small office. Attua works with clients on site across Australia, from a base in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, and these four councils are all reachable in a drive.
Freight and logistics
The part of Brisbane that runs on paperwork at the gate
Brisbane's freight task is big enough to have its own admin problem. The Port of Brisbane moved about 1,620,000 containers and 34.9 million tonnes of trade in 2024/25 across 5,473 vessel movements, and the Port and its supply chain support around 73,000 jobs. Brisbane Airport is Australia's third-largest airport by passenger numbers, runs 24 hours a day, has direct connections to 32 international and 62 domestic destinations, and employs more than 25,000 people on site.
Around both of those sit the transport, postal and warehousing businesses that the Census counted at 48,617 jobs in the city. Their constraint is rarely trucks. It is customs and compliance documents, proof of delivery, exception handling when something does not arrive, and the rate and quote correspondence that moves by email. All of it is pattern work that currently needs a person reading carefully. See AI for logistics and transport.
2032 and the build
A decade of construction, and the admin that rides along with it
The Queensland Government has confirmed funding for 17 new and upgraded venues across Queensland for the 2032 Games, alongside a program of transport projects. Whatever you think of the Games, the practical effect for a Brisbane business is a long pipeline of work and a long pipeline of paperwork: prequalification, tender compliance, subcontractor onboarding, progress claims, variations, site documentation and reporting to more parties than usual.
Construction already employs 51,307 people in Brisbane, and with seven of Queensland's ten largest councils by population sitting in the south east, most of the growth pressure lands in the same corridor. The firms that get through the next decade well are mostly the ones whose back office scales without hiring in proportion. That is a solvable problem, and it is worth solving before the pipeline peaks rather than during it. Working together
How a Brisbane engagement actually runs
In person, where it changes the outcome. Attua is based at Level 4, 126 Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Workshops, process walk-throughs and the sessions where decisions get made happen at your office. Attua works with clients on site across Australia, and Brisbane is the city it is based in.
Remote for the build. The configuration, testing and iteration happen remotely, which is faster and cheaper than having someone sit in your office doing it. You get the in-person time where it changes the outcome and nowhere else.
One person, start to finish. The person on the first call is the person watching your process, writing the scope and setting the thing up. Sam Thompson runs a production company that uses these tools daily, so the advice comes from an operator rather than a reseller. No software commissions.
The sequence. A call about what is actually slow. A working session in your office with leadership and the people who do the work. A written scope with the cost agreed before anything starts. Then build, test against real jobs, and train the team on it. Read more about AI strategy, AI implementation and AI training for teams.
Guardrails
Data, privacy and the things that stay human
Every engagement starts by agreeing what data the tools can see, where it goes and what is out of scope, in line with the Privacy Act. Business-grade accounts, minimum necessary access, and human review for anything that is customer facing, clinical, legal or financial.
For Brisbane's health care and legal workloads that is not a nice-to-have, it is the design constraint. Attua does not build anything that talks to your clients or patients unsupervised, and does not build anything that commits your business to a number without a person approving it. Your managers get usage rules short enough to actually enforce. Privacy details.
Cost
What a Brisbane engagement costs
Every engagement is scoped in writing before it begins, against the starting figure in the panel at the top of this page, so you know the number before you commit. On-site time with your team is part of how the work is delivered rather than a line added to it. For how this is priced generally, read the AI consulting cost guide, or model your own numbers with the cost calculator.
Questions
What Brisbane businesses ask first
Where in Brisbane are you?
Level 4, 126 Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006. Phone 0423 766 790.
Will you come to our office?
Yes, and for most Brisbane engagements that is the point. Workshops and the sessions where decisions get made happen at your place. Anywhere in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay or Redlands is a drive.
How much does AI consulting in Brisbane cost?
Starting from $9,999 (AUD, ex GST). Every Brisbane engagement is scoped in writing before it begins, so the number is agreed before you commit. What moves it is scope: how many processes are in the first build, how many systems they touch, and how much of the team needs training. To model your own numbers, use the cost calculator.
What size business does this suit?
Mostly 50 to 500 staff. Multi-site operators get the most out of it, because one working process rolls out across every site. A sole trader is usually better served by a good template and an hour a week.
Our data is sensitive. Is that a problem?
It is the normal starting point in a city where the largest industry is health care and the second is professional services. The answer is business-grade accounts, access limited to what the workflow needs, nothing leaving systems you already trust unless you decide otherwise in writing, and a person reviewing anything that goes out.
We bought licences and nobody uses them. Can you fix that?
That is the most common starting point in Brisbane. Licences on their own change nothing. What changes things is a handful of workflows built for the actual jobs each team does, plus short role-based training. That is usually a faster win than a new system.
Do you work outside Brisbane?
Yes. Attua works with clients on site across Australia, including Sydney and Melbourne, from a base in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
